Winter & April

I've taken it easy, as I've been feeling exhausted for the last weeks, focused on recovering from my pharyngitis. Lots of people have had some kind of dreaded lurgy these days, and it takes time to fully recover!. I'm still coughing but not particularly hoarse now, after ten days of taking my medicines and speaking as little as possible. Not attending the phone at work has been a silver lining, but I've felt quite frustrated because of the lack of communication and quite sad finally. The wintery weather hasn't helped, I had to resort to warm coats and tights and knits that I had almost stored. Spring is hitting us with usual unpredictable weather, wind, cold, sun and all together again!

Me lo estoy tomando con calma, ya que me sentido cansadísima durante las últimas semanas, recuperándome de la faringitis. Hay un montón de gente que ha tenido alguna clase de resfriado o gripe estos días, y lleva tiempo recuperarse del todo. Todavía sigo tosiendo, pero ya no estoy especialmente ronca, después de diez días de tomar medicamentos y hablar lo menos posible. Ha tenido un lado bueno, que es no tener que atender el teléfono en la oficina, pero no poder hablar te acaba frustrando y afecta al estado de ánimo. Tampoco ayuda que hemos tenido un tiempo invernal, he tenido que recurrir a los abrigos gordos, las medias y esas prendas de punto que ya tenía pensado guardar. La primavera, en su línea habitual, nos sacude con un tiempo impredecible, viento, frío, luego sol y luego todo a la vez!.

It was still not particularly cold when I went back to work last week, but I wore some layers to keep me comfortable, and my puffer jacket which is quite warm (it was a retail purchase). Striped t-shirt by CandA (old), crochet pullover by myself, floral trousers and scarf were retail purchased too. Adidas sneakers (old) and usual cork bag by Fine Cork Portugal. Necklace was charity shopped.

Todavía no hacía tanto frío la semana pasada, cuando volví al trabajo, pero igualmente me puse varias capas para sentirme más calentita y cómoda, y mi chaqueta acolchada naranja que es abrigadita (la compré en una tienda local). Camiseta de rayas del CandA, jersey de ganchillo hecho por mí, pantalón de flores y chal de otra tienda local. Zapatillas Adidas (antiguas) y el habitual bolso de corcho de Fine Cork Portugal. El collar es de una tienda solidaria.

That's another crochet piece, recently finished, I was looking forward to wearing. I picked that vintage 80's dress in satiny blue and green to match my crochet vest-cardi, and carried on with matchy shoes (El Naturalista, I took them to the cobbler to dye in a bold blue, years ago). Tights by Snag. Green trench by Seasalt (old).

Estaba deseando estrenar esta última prenda de crochet que he acabado hace poco. Elegí un vestido vintage ochentero de colores azul y verde satinados, que combinan con los colores del chaleco-chaqueta de ganchillo, y continuando con la combinación, estos zapatos también en tonos similares (El Naturalista, son antiguos y los llevé al zapatero a que los tiñera en este color, hace unos años). Medias Snag. Gabardina verde de Seasalt.

I'd wear in repeat same ensemble, sans tights, as soon as possible. Matchiness makes me happy, don't judge me!

Me encantaría repetir este mismo conjunto, sin las medias, tan pronto como se pueda. Me encanta combinar los colores, no me juzguéis!

As the weather became wintery, I had to resort to warm coats (polka dot coat was acquired retail two years ago, label SophiaCurvy). I wore this geometric dress (a hand-me-down by Mom) which is perfect when I feel uninspired, it's comfy, easy to wear (pockets!) and adds some grooviness to any dull day!. Tights by Snag. Adidas sneakers (old). Massive scarf was shopped retail at Eme, years ago.

Al ponerse el tiempo cada vez más invernal, tuve que echar mano de los abrigos otra vez. El abrigo de lunares lo compré en una tienda local hace dos años (marca SophiaCurvy). Me puse también este vestido geométrico que me pasó mi madre, que es perfecto para esos días en que no sabes qué ponerte, porque es cómodo (bolsillos!) y fácil de combinar y le da un toque animado a cualquier día aburrido. Medias de Snag. Zapatillas Adidas. La bufa-manta la compré en la tienda local Eme hace unos años.

Same coat to keep me warm in another windy cold day. But I tried a different colour combo. I picked that second hand skirt (from Sunday street market), a CandA striped pullover and an ancient black waistcoat. That wool scarf was shopped at an artisan market. Pendant by Ciclón (years old). Adidas sneakers (old).

Mismo abrigo para mantener el comfort en otro día frío y ventoso. Pero intenté otra combinación de colores. La falda es de segunda mano, del mercadillo del domingo, y el jersey de rayas es del CandA, y llevo también un chaleco negro antiquísimo. La bufanda de lana la compré en un mercadillo artesano. Colgante de Ciclón (hace años). Zapatillas Adidas.

The weather has improved last days, so I wore lighter layers. Still rainy and windy, so wore my trusty Seasalt trench coat, as I had to run errands in the evening (great idea, it rained!). I picked that (second hand) pullover and my old turquoise-acqua trousers that I wear a lot of times during springtime. Shoes by Camper. Usual cork bag by Fine Cork Portugal.

El tiempo ha ido mejorando algo los últimos días, así que he ido aligerando la ropa también. Aunque sigue lluvioso y con viento, así que me puse la gabardina de Seasalt, impermeable, ya que tenía que hacer recados por la tarde (y fue buena idea, porque me cayó una chaparrada). My repeat offender of the week was the turquoise-acqua trousers, so comfy!. I paired them with an ancient blouse and a crochet vest I made years ago and then forgot in a drawer. Not my usual attitude (I wear my clothes immediately and as many times as possible), but I have not felt like wearing it. Probably because it was not an enjoyable project, actually I quit crocheting it (or anything!), and took me years to have my crochet mojo back. However it's a lovely vest (I think) and I'll give it another chance.

Mi reincidente de la semana es el pantalón turquesa-agua, que es comodísimo. Esta vez me lo puse con una blusa antiquísima y este chaleco de ganchillo que hice hace unos años y luego metí en un cajón. No es lo que suelo hacer, soy de ponérmelo todo inmediatamente y cuanto más mejor, pero no me apetecía ponérmelo. Probablemente se deba a que no fue un proyecto de ganchillo que disfrutase especialmente, lo abandoné (en realidad, abandoné el ganchillo) y me llevó unos años volver a encontrar la inspiración para acabarlo. Sin embargo, creo que es un chaleco gracioso y tendré que darle otra oportunidad.

I couldn't volunteer at my favourite charity market, as I was still feeling tired. But I gathered my strength and payed it a visit, and acquired these pieces of (pre-loved) jewellery. Sorry that I didn't feel like rummaging a little bit, even ignored the scarves on display, that's how tired I was.

Esta vez no pude echar una mano en el mercadillo solidario al que suelo ayudar, y que está de vuelta este año, porque estaba cansadísima. Pero reuní fuerzas para una visita y compré estas bisuterías. Una lástima que no me sintiera con ganas de rebuscar un poco, incluso pasé de largo ante el expositor de los pañuelos, ¡así de cansada estaba!.

Back to Reality

My holiday break has been longer than expected and not for good reason!. We had a lovely week in Lanzarote, most days were delightfully hot, but last day was damn windy and I resented from that sudden change (became hoarse!). So I visited my doctor as soon we came home, and she told me that I had got a pharingitis (and a conjunctivitis too, no expense spared!). So I've been in antibiotics, and felt really tired, so I had to take a sick leave and everything was posponed, including my blog post. Time flies when you're having fun! (/irony)

Al final, mi pausa vacacional ha sido más larga de lo esperado, pero no por buenas razones. Pasamos una semana estupenda en Lanzarote, la mayoría de los días con un tiempo buenísimo, pero el último día cambió de pronto a un viento de los demonios, que hizo que se me resintiera la garganta y me quedé afónica. Así que fui a mi doctora en cuanto llegué a casa y me dijo que tenía faringitis (y una conjuntivitis también, no reparo en gastos). Así que he estado con antibióticos, y sintiéndome como un trapo, y de baja una semanita. He tenido que dejar todo para más adelante, incluyendo el blog. Y es que el tiempo vuela cuando te estás divirtiendo (/ironía)

We had a fantastic time, totally my kind of quiet lifestyle. Long walks, some great food, and some excursions to visit a few favourite places, like the Cactus Garden where we took some photos again (even if we had visited it last year too)

Lo hemos pasado muy bien, es el tipo de vida tranquila que me gusta. Muchos paseos, buena comida, y unas cuantas excursiones para volver a lugares que nos encantan, como el Jardín de Cactus, donde volvimos a sacar fotos, otra vez!, aunque ya estuvimos el año pasado

It was our third visit to Arrecife, which is a lovely place to spend the morning, as we did!. We walked and sightsaw, visited the market, then sat on a terrace and enjoyed a delightful lunch.

Visitamos Arrecife por tercera vez, es un lugar estupendo para pasar una mañana, como hicimos. Puedes pasear, ver el ambiente, visitar el mercado, y luego sentarte en una terraza a comer si quieres!.

Last day I was fighting the wind, even if well wrapped in my scarf and denim jacket, but still feeling the chill.

Y aquí estaba yo el último día, luchando con el viento, bien abrochada la chaqueta y el pañuelo, pero todavía pasando fresquete.

I took some photos of my luggage, as a reference for next trips. Probably I've lost my 'light packer' skills after some years of not having to pack a cabin luggage. Travels by car have spoiled me!
Saqué unas fotos del equipaje, como referencia para viajes posteriores. Probablemente estoy perdiendo mi habilidad para hacer equipajes mínimos, después de estos últimos años de no viajar con maleta de cabina. Tanto viaje en coche me ha malacostumbrado.

It's always difficult to pack when the weather is so unpredictable, and I'm always tempted to pack for every possible temperature. But I (mostly) ignored all those 'just in case' and kept it simple, picked two trousers, four blouses and two dresses. But could have done it better (and lighter).

Siempre es difícil hacer las maletas para un clima tan impredecible, y está la tentación de intentar llevar ropa para cualquier tiempo. Pero conseguí ignorar todos esos 'por si acaso' y quedarme con dos pantalones, cuatro blusas y dos vestidos. Pero podría haberlo hecho mejor, y más reducido.

I also packed some bijouterie as it adds interest and takes up little space. I wore those beads for the trip (no metallic pieces!) and my 'leaves' earrings which are really lightweight!. Always better to avoid any fuss when going through airport control.

También me llevé algo de bisutería, que siempre añade interés y ocupa muy poco. Me puse el collar de bolitas para el viaje, porque no tiene partes metálicas, y los pendientes de hojitas que son muy ligeros. Siempre mejor evitar cualquier inconveniente en los controles del aeropuerto, ante todo comodidad.

Still not feeling my best but I wore some bold pastels for colour therapy and went for a short walk (to the doctor!). Now I'm back to work, and have had to deal with usual crazy amount of emails, technical issues and stuff, but my coworkers have missed me and looked happy to see me back!. I can't complain actually.
Todavía no estoy muy bien, pero me puse colores variados y ya sólo eso te anima, y me dí un paseíto corto (hasta el médico!). Estoy de vuelta en el trabajo y en la habitual lucha con una cantidad muy loca de emails y demás, pero también mis compañeros de trabajo están encantados de verme de vuelta. ¡Así que no me puedo quejar!

Rainy Spring

We're suposedly entering Spring so, obviously, the weather has changed into wintery conditions (/irony). I was totally into a spring mood two weeks ago and went out bare legged only to go back to coats and tights last week. At least it was a short week at work because of the Easter holidays. Usually we stay at home during Easter break and make the most of it by pottering around (our own traditional holiday!). Some years ago we even painted and decorated a full room, but not anymore!. Now we take it easy and I just fixed some stuff, dusted our living room and repotted our aloe vera (which is growing so much that we've named her 'Audrey II'). I lead such a wild life!

Ahora que se supone que entra la primavera, el tiempo cambia a condiciones invernales (una ironía). Yo ya estaba en modo primaveral hace dos semanas, y he tenido que volver a los abrigos y medias esta semana. Al menos ha sido una semana corta en el trabajo, por las vacaciones de Semanasanta. Normalmente nos quedamos en casa en estas vacaciones y aprovechamos para arreglar o redecorar (esa es nuestra tradición!). Hace unos años incluso pintábamos y decorábamos una habitación entera, pero ya no!. Ahora nos lo tomamos con calma y simplemente he arreglado un par de cosillas, limpiado un poco y hecho una mínima labor de jardinería, cambiando de tiesto nuestro aloe vera (ha crecido tanto que la hemos llamado Audrey II). Si es que llevo una vida interesantísima!.

It was a retail shop (label Sophia Curvy) and I paid the full price, so broke my own rules (again). But I've worn it a lot of times and it's still strong, so we could consider it 'an investment'. Mi reincidente de la semana es este abrigo de lunares que tengo hace años (hay que ver cómo pasa el tiempo). Fue una compra en una tienda local (marca Sophia Curvy) y pagué el precio completo, lo que va contra mis propias reglas. Pero me lo he puesto un montón y sigue estupendo, así que podríamos considerarlo 'una inversión'. Los pantalones de rayas son de una liquidación, la blusa roja es de segunda mano. Botas de Treksta y una bufanda enorme que compré hace años en una tienda local.

Another comfy outfit to go to work in an (unseasonably) cold day. I stored most of my winter clothes (optimistic as I am), so I had to resort to some old classics. I wore my 'leftovers cardi-vest' over a striped pullover by CandA, and added a massive pendant by a local artisan. Completely normal black trousers were shopped at PuntRoma. Boots by NorthFace outlet. Wool scarf came from an artisan market.

De nuevo, algo cómodo para ir al trabajo en otro día frío (mucho más frío de lo normal para la época del año). Como ya he guardado la mayoría de mi ropa de invierno, tuve que recurrir a los clásicos. Me puse este chaleco-chaqueta hecha con sobras de lanas, sobre un jersey de rayas del CandA y añadí un colgante bien grande de una tienda de artesanía local. Pantalones negros muy normales, que compré en Puntroma. Botas NorthFace (outlet). Bufanda de lana de un mercado artesano.

Last Saturday morning was a little bit different than usual, as it was in the middle of Easter break, so we skipped our running errands routine and went straight to social life, tapas and vinos. After a week of deny, I finally wore tights (by Snag). That's a self-sewed skirt (years ago), with a black turtleneck by LaRedoute (old) and red cardi by Evans (old). Shoes by Camper. Vintage necklace, charityshopped. Brooch was a present by Mom.

La mañana de este pasado sábado fue un poco diferente de lo normal, porque estábamos en el medio de la semanasanta, así que nos saltamos los recados y fuimos directos a la vida social, vinos y pinchos. Después de una semana negándome, al final me puse medias (Snag). La falda es de costura casera, de hace años, con un cuello vuelto negro de LaRedoute y una chaquetita bolero Evans, todo antigüito. Zapatos Camper. Collar vintage de Cáritas. Broche fue un regalo de mamá.

Our massive Aloe Vera, now renamed 'Audrey Two', in her new home. Not only she's growing, but also creating baby plants that I've repotted in my balcony pots (which are creating baby plants too, that's a neverending propagation). I think this is the one and only plant I succeed in growing (it's invasive!) but glad she's restrained into a pot.

Aquí está nuestro aloe vera, ahora llamada Audrey Dos, en su nuevo lugar. No sólo está creciendo mucho, también se está propagando como loca, y hemos replantado algunas plantitas en el balcón, que, a su vez, se están propagando también, esto no tiene fin. Creo que es la única planta que he conseguido que crezca bien, y es invasiva!, así que menos mal que está en la maceta y se queda ahí.

March & Walks

March is coming to an end, my less favourite month of the year, but this year it has behaved nicely (despite the unpredictable weather!). I think that I managed my usual springy low mood quite well, had not been in (particularly) bad health and dealt with some hectic work periods without stressing myself (that's a major achievement). So I'd give March a gold star!

Marzo ya se está acabando, el mes que menos me gusta del año, pero este año ha resultado comportarse bastante bien (a pesar del tiempo tan extraño que ha hecho). Creo que lo he llevado bien, no me ha afectado tanto la llegada de la primavera con su astenia, no he tenido achaques de salud muy malos y he sobrellevado bien algunos momentos de mucho trabajo sin estresarme (lo que es un logro!). Así que le daría a marzo una buena puntuación.

I've unpacked some wide legged trousers for the springy weather we're having. Those trousers were shopped retail years ago. Orange blouse (by Zara) came from a second hand stall at Sunday street market. Trench by Seasalt. Massive pendant made by a local artist. Wool scarf came from an artisan market. Adidas sneakers. Usual cork bag by Fine Cork Portugal.

He tenido que ir sacando ropa primaveral para adaptarme al clima, como estos pantalones anchos (una compra en Festa de hace años). Blusa naranja de Zara, adquirida de segunda mano en el mercadillo del domingo. Impermeable de Seasalt. Colgante negro hecho por una artista local. Pañuelo de lana de un mercado artesano. Zapatillas de Adidas. El habitual bolso de corcho es de Fine Cork Portugal.

We had some terrific weather last week, so I went bare legged under that maxi dress!. I wore just light layers, and removed most of them as the sun was higher in the sky! (25ºC again!).
Dress was jazzed up by Ramonak Workshop, a local designer (years ago). Bolero cardi by CandA (ages ago). Second hand denim jacket. Earrings by Eme, local retailer.

Tuvimos un tiempo estupendísimo la semana pasada, así que iba sin medias bajo este vestido largo. También tuve que recurrir a las superposiciones, para ir quitando capas según calentaba el sol (25ºC otra vez!).
El vestido lleva un diseño de Ramonak Workshop, una diseñadora local (hace años). Chaquetita bolero del CandA (antigüita). Chaqueta denim de segunda mano. Pendientes de Earrings by Eme, negocio local!.

It was a chilly Saturday morning as the weather was starting to change. So it was just a 'normal temperatures' kind of day and I could wear some tights if I wanted to. But not. Because it's difficult to go back to winter clothes once you tried summery ones. Leggings to the rescue! (those were shopped at LaRedoute years ago). Sneakers by Adidas outlet. Dress was a hand-me-down by Mom (label Udalaitz). Trench by Seasalt. Block printed scarf came from an artisan shop.

El sábado por la mañana el tiempo estaba cambiando y hacía más fresquete. Así que en realidad era una temperatura perfectamente normal. Podría haber llevado medias, pero No. Porque se hace muy difícil volver a ponerse ropa de invierno una vez que ya llevas las piernas al aire. Así que es mejor recurrir a los leggings! (estos son de LaRedoute, de hace años). Zapatillas de Adidas outlet. Vestido fue un descarte de mi mamá (marca Udalaitz). Gabardina Seasalt. Pañuelo de estampado de bloques, de una tienda artesana.

We went for an excursion with friends on Sunday and Mr.A. was our driver (nobody else drives, are we strange?). We visited some mountain villages which are an hour distance (so not particularly remote, but the road is 'picturesque') and had a lovely time!. We discovered lots of fab places to stay and eat, and some amazing landscapes (even if lacked some greenery now).

Salimos de excursión con amigos el domingo y Mr.A. fue nuestro conductor (claro está, porque es el único que conduce, ¿somos raros?). Fuimos a ver unos pueblecitos de la sierra que están sólo a una hora de distancia, así que no son especialmente remotos pero la carretera es de esas 'pintorescas'. Y lo pasamos muy bien, descubriendo montones de lugares para quedarse o comer, y unos paisajes muy bonitos (aunque no están en su mejor momento, todavía falta verde!)
